What concerns me now is that the final version of our website is not launched yet.
I need, on the other hand, to discuss the time and the cost with the management.
Briefly speaking, the course will cover the following details:

• Bilingual lexicography
The course will be in English. Reading materials are to be provided. Completing assignments are required.
The course could be one unit, or two units based on the time availability of students.
We will arrange a secure forum to discuss relevant issues and email group for participants.

وأؤيد مقترحك، إذ سيصار خلال هذه الفترة الى اعداد تعريفات بالدورة وطريقة الدراسة وتسليم الواجبات وإعداد مجموعة اخبارية خاصة بالمشاركين لتسهيل المراسلات بين الجميع.

Dear Participant

Welcome to the course (Translation Theory).

As the name implies, this course covers material on the theory of translation. Six lessons are dedicated to translation. The translation material was compiled by Baker Al Musawi who will mark your assessment tasks that relate to translation. You will need to do weekly exercises and complete the assessment tasks in order to successfully complete the course. It is also advisable that you read as many of the references that accompany each lesson as you possible can.

In the package for this subject you will be receiving the following:

1. The weekly subject. You must read the subject outline carefully. In it you will read about the assessment requirements, participant responsibilities as well as the general aims and rationale of the subject.
The weekly subject also has a set of guidelines for assignments 1 and 2.

There will be weekly modules. You should do one module a week, making sure you do all the suggested exercises and read the accompanying references.

2. You will be provided with a list of references includes some of the references used in the lesson package and some extra references that you can use for your assignments. The provided reading material does not cover all the references you will need.

Course outline

Rationale

Theoretical notions originating in linguistics. Psychology and other disciplines support the practice of translation. A background knowledge of this theory is essential for you to develop professional skills, behaviour and practice. The aim of this course is to help you develop this knowledge.



Objectives

Participant will learn:

• The development of translation theory,
• The main features of ethical behaviour and codes of ethics for interpreters and translators,
• The main aspects of linguistics theory underpinning the process of translation,
• How to be aware of the cross-cultural aspects of language and the implications of translation,
• To understand the notion of equivalence at the various levels of linguistics analysis, and
• To understand the importance of the various roles that interpreters and translators play in a range of communicative contexts.


Materials and how to use them

You will have received:

• An Introductory for the course,
• This study outline, and
• Weekly reading material

The Introductory provides general information on how to manage your studies as a distance student. This material will answer many questions you will have. For questions not covered here, contact your course co-coordinator or other relevant source.

The study outline contains the material you will work through to achieve the objectives listed above. It is recommended that you work through a lesson each week, completing the exercises as you go.

The Reading material contains the reading material you will be directed to throughout your study as you work through material.

There is also a recommended text book with this subject:

Baker, M. (1994). In Other Words: A Coursebook for Translation.
London: Routledge.

Participants will be directed to specific sections as you work through the material, but it is expected that you will read the entire text.

In addition, students are expected to access the additional references provided as necessary and will be required to draw on language-specific examples to discuss and explain theoretical points.

Six lessons are dedicated to translation. The translation material was compiled by Baker Al Musawi who will mark your assessment tasks that relate to translation.
