what is visible for the coachs eyes could only be estimated but not measured, Even if it could be possible, we could be wrong due to many other aspects that are not related to the value that we are looking for (our expertise, our feelings, prejudices towards a player and so on). Thats why we needed a tool to eliminate this kind of mistake and to create a scientific approach to analyze what we were doing

The Coerver Coaching Method

For a long time, this was the general feeling of many soccer coaches. That you couldnt teach what these unique soccer players could do with the soccer ball. Soccer talent wasnt something you could really develop and those who played the best simply were greeted as though their talent was a gift of God and couldnt be duplicated
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Much changed in the 1970s when the Coerver Coaching was introduced. A Dutchman, Wiel Coerver, felt that soccer skills could be analyzed and taught from an early age. In many ways Wiel Coerver is the father of soccer training
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Utilizing the brand new television and slow motion replay technology of his day, Coever studied the game of soccer from a new perspective. He watched all-time greats such as Johan Cruyff and Pele, and then dissected their moves so he could teach them to young players

Where once England squads were divided into Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool tables at mealtimes, now players from these ostensibly rival camps were pulling together as one.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Miserable camps had contributed to Englands struggles in previous tournaments, most damagingly in South Africa 2010 under Fabio Capellos iron rule, but things were different right from the start
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
What had otherwise been a fairly innocuous open training session ahead of Englands second game, against Panama, triggered a 24-hour media storm. Assistant Steve Hollands training notes were snapped, ostensibly revealing Marcus Rashford was to take the place of Raheem Sterling in the starting XI.

I dont know, Roy obviously decided for Harry to take corners, Rooney later revealed. I felt at the time that he was the top goalscorer in the Premier League. Hes a big lad in the box
It was Roys decision. But after the first game I dont think Harry wanted to take the corners so I went and took them. I felt I probably should have taken them anyway.

a Russian reporter asked Southgate: Your generation of players did not fall as much as the current generation of players. What do you think happened to the spirit of English football? Your generation played like rocks. The current generation fall every time the wind blows. Southgates reply was a knowing one: Maybe were getting a bit smarter. Maybe were now playing by the rules the rest of the world are playing by.

On the day of Englands World Cup semi-final against Croatia on June 11, Londons Hyde Park hosted a hastily-arranged festival of football. It is estimated that as many as 500,000 applied for the 30,000 tickets on offer after a frenzy erupted when mayor Sadiq Khan announced the free screening
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
There was a phrase that Southgate and his players repeated all summer, as if it had been drilled into them like a talking point for a politician prepping for Question Time. We are writing our own history.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
History itself, however, must not become a burden.
-----------------------------------

His teachers thought his future lay in accountancy or journalism. Even when apprenticed at Crystal Palace, he was advised by his coach, Alan Smith, to become a travel agent. However Smith still made him first-team captain, and Southgate went on to enjoy a 57-cap international career.

Asked whether Smalling struggles playing the ball out from the back, he responded: "No, I think he can. We have players like John Stones and Eric Dier and Harry Maguire who are even better."
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Arsenal's Jack Wilshere was also touted after showing flashes of his best form but Southgate was unmoved and clearly wants harder evidence before thinking again about a player who has been constantly troubled by injuries.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
"We'd love to have a team full of players who have won the Champions League but we haven't got that," said the former Middlesbrough manager. "But I want players who will be fearless, prepared to have the ball and show what they are capable of on the biggest stage. 2018

Southgate's switch to a three-man defensive system once England had qualified for the World Cup suggested he had separated that part of his mission, effectively phase one of his job, from the actual tournament itself
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Southgate used a conventional back four until he could safely plot his path to Russia - and since then has appeared increasingly convinced a three-man central defence with full-backs pushing on is England's way forward

Gareth Southgate and England: The roots of his revolution
Sweden are seen as Englands bogey team but the last time Gareth Southgate led out a team against them it not only ended in victory for the U21 side but helped to shape the senior squad of today
the seeds of this revolution were planted at that tournament
-----------------------------------

England beat Sweden but finished bottom of their group. Sweden topped it and went on to be crowned champions. It was a blow for Southgate in his first tournament in charge

World Cup every two years
Gareth Southgate :But the calendar generally needs to be tidied up. We cant keep adding more things in. I agree generally with the concept of better quality matches. Fewer matches, better quality, across the board.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Clearly, the biggest beneficiary would be FIFAs coffers
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
But top managers like Jurgen Klopp are bound to have concerns about the potential for extra strain on their players while UEFA are fiercely opposed to the concept, not least because it could dilute the importance of their competitions
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
the World Cup is arguably the biggest sporting event on the planet and the biggest tournament a player can win during their career. Making it every four years limits that opportunity but getting the older generation to see past the tried and trusted may be FIFAs biggest battle.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
As a traditionalist it feels you could lose some of the allure of the World Cup because the scarcity of it makes it more important. But I also get it that if you are a player who has an injury for the World Cup, you might only get one opportunity every eight years
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Political developments (in particular the Salisbury poisoning) coupled with fears about Russia's attitude towards race and people in the LGBT+ community saw low ticket sales amongst England fans (as well as the declaration that nobody from the British government or royal family would attend the tournament).

Prior to the World Cup, Sterling was subjected to the latest in a string of attacks by the tabloid media, this time for sporting an unfinished tattoo
Throughout the World Cup, the BBC Sport website allowed fans to rate players, and for the majority of the tournament Sterling repeatedly came last in these rankings, averaging approximately 4 out of 10.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
The reason for this being so frustrating for me is that Sterling had a much better World Cup than these ratings suggest.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
and the argument can be made that his misfires in front of goal could be as a result of the stress caused by the tabloid media.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
"What we saw in the World Cup was England dominating possession against the lesser nations with a three at the back," he said on Sky Sports News.
"Then recently we have seen in the games away against Croatia and away against Spain, that they have changed the system to a 4-3-3 because they know they can play on the counter-attack against teams who play on the front foot."
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
According to Higginbotham, the three-at-the-back system is effective against lesser sides because it allows England to outnumber their opponents in midfield.

"What they try to do with three at the back is create an extra man in midfield," he explains. "It's a way of trying to disturb the opposition's defence. You've got the centre-backs looking to step out, you've got full-backs near enough playing as midfielders.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
"If you've got Harry Maguire stepping out with the ball, what he's hoping for is to create a knock-on effect. He wants to disturb that area, drag midfielders towards him and create spaces behind him.
"The knock-on effect is that one of your midfielders can then occupy that space and receive the ball. All of a sudden you've got their centre-backs having to step out, too, which leaves space for the forwards to get in behind and get one-v-one. It's a domino effect.

Wayne Rooney says foreign managers like Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are helping to improve current England players
-----------------------------------

"Ten months ago we qualified [for the World Cup] and people were throwing paper aeroplanes onto the pitch at Wembley," said Southgate.
"We were driving back to our hotel in Malta with some obscene chants being thrown at us from supporters.
-----------------------------------

Manchester City defender John Stones said: "Gareth lets us express ourselves. That's a massive thing as a footballer.
"Sometimes you can get too bogged down with messages from staff, players, wanting you to do things, play certain passe and you can't really express yourself.
"Gareth gives us that freedom and that is a massive thing as a player."

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Southgate has been rewarded for making bold calls and significant tactical changes, the most notable of which was to switch to a back three in the build-up to the World Cup

Back in 1998, a social attitudes survey undertaken by two Belfast universities suggested 58% of people in the province thought same-sex relationships were always wrong, nearly 20% higher than the equivalent finding at the time from the British Social Attitudes survey.

However, public opinion in Northern Ireland shifted considerably on this in the ensuing 15 years and by 2013, the figure had dropped from 58% to 27%.

Southgate appreciates the personal struggle it has taken for many of the side to get to where they are today and knows the role players' families take in making them grounded, respectful human beings.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Hence the manager's acceptance to allow Phil Jones and Fabian Delph to leave the camp to attend the births of their children and players being given days off to spend time with their families.
"Family comes first" is something Southgate has said on more than one occasion. His actions prove that.

England have their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years on Wednesday - but the players were let loose with a rubber chicken in training on Tuesday
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Some things we've noticed while here in Russia that prove Southgate and his team want their players to love the whole World Cup camp experience:

Unicorns in the swimming pool
Dodgeball during training
Late night sessions looking through clips on the players' phones of fans in the UK losing it
Kabaddi during training
Southgate and his staff picking the songs on the bus on the way to training
Music during training
Watching Love Island being a nightly tradition
Nerf balls during training
Southgate refusing to accept he is a sex and fashion icon with the line 'I'm no Beckham'
A rubber chicken at training

As England face biggest game for 28 years, they prepare for it with final training session - using RUBBER CHICKENS to warm up!
England take on Croatia in a highly-anticipated World Cup semi-final in Moscow on Wednesday evening
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
They carried out an unusual warm-up drill and seemed in high spirits as they played with a rubber chicken
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
But Southgate continued his habit of including less traditional coaching methods in his work with the national team as he had the players prepare in a jovial manner for the Tuesday session
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
There seemed to be a physical element to the warm-up as England's players tried to avoid one another while they were holding the rubber chickens

Thierry Henry says he is quitting social media until online abuse is regulated "with the same vigour and ferocity" that copyright infringements are

Southgate has also encouraged his England players to voice their own opinions about the 2022 World Cup being held in Qatar - as more nations begin to protest in support of migrant workers building stadiums for the tournament
-----------------------------------

Southgate said:
When I'm in camp, I try to switch off from all the external media, which is not great for keeping up with what's going on in the world. But the world is a happier place if I'm not getting that negativity.

Football's governing bodies to unite for three-day social media boycott this weekend; FA, Premier League, EFL, Women's Super League, FA Women's Championship, PFA, LMA, PGMOL, Kick It Out and the FSA will not post during boycott; suspension to last from 3pm on Friday to 11.59pm on Monday
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
"We know from our members' first-hand accounts that online hate causes trauma. The impact of the abuse can also extend to family members and impressionable fans."
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Boycott action from football in isolation will, of course, not eradicate the scourge of online discriminatory abuse, but it will demonstrate that the game is willing to take voluntary and proactive steps in this continued fight
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Jurgen Klopp says it is "time for change" while Pep Guardiola questions whether the boycott will be "a drop of water in the ocean"; Nuno Espirito Santo says the boycott will need to be repeated to ensure the anti-racism message is heard
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Sky Sports has joined a host of leading organisations, clubs and players in not posting any content online for the next four days in a unified response to the rising abuse online and the measures taken to deal with it.

Scottish FA Equality Advisor and Livingston captain Marvin Bartley says abuse on social media could lead to someone taking their own life unless companies do more to stop it
-----------------------------------

Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce, who revealed his children had been targeted with abuse aimed at him earlier this season, said: "I worry about social media, not just for the racist stuff which is obviously disgusting. I worry for young people when they're vulnerable and they're looking at it.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is completely behind the boycott and detailed the impact racist abuse directed towards Wilfried Zaha has had.
"In particular Wilf Zaha has been a constant target and on one or two occasions, it has even affected his mental state as one would expect it to.

"He has never indicated it has hurt him so much mentally he can't train or play football, but there is no doubt a lot of the things that have gone on have had an effect on him.

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Sky Sports will not post any sports content to its channels on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and Tik Tok for the duration of the boycott period from 3pm on Friday April 30 until 11.59pm on Monday May 3.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Cricket: The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Wednesday that it, the 18 first-class counties, the eight women's regional teams and the Professional Cricketers' Association were joining the boycott

Sponsors: Sportswear giant Adidas - which manufactures more than a third of Premier League kits - is stopping all advertising across its platforms. Barclays, which sponsors the WSL, will support the blackout, with no social media posts on the Barclays Football pages of Facebook and Instagram nor the Barclays Footy Twitter account, while the company's other social channels will avoid all football-related activity.
-----------------------------------

Joining Sky Sports, BT Sport says the only posts on its channels over the blackout period will relate to social media abuse

Sam Allardyce has left his post as England manager by mutual agreement with the Football Association after one match and 67 days in charge
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
It follows a newspaper investigation claiming he offered advice on how to "get around" rules on player transfers.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
and becomes the national side's shortest-serving full-time manager
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Allardyce, 61, is also alleged to have used his role to negotiate a deal worth 400,000 to represent a Far East firm.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
The Daily Telegraph said Allardyce had a meeting with undercover reporters posing as businessmen before he took charge of his first England training session.

During the meeting, which was recorded on camera, it is alleged Allardyce said it was "not a problem" to bypass rules on third-party player ownership and claimed he knew of agents who were "doing it all the time"
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
What is third-party player ownership?
Third-party ownership occurs when investment companies take a stake in the economic rights of players.

It was described as a form of "slavery" by Michel Platini, the former president of European football's governing body Uefa.

The practice was banned by the FA in 2008 and by Fifa in May last year.

Only Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp have managed more games in the top flight

World cup every two years: But top managers like Jurgen Klopp are bound to have concerns about the potential for extra strain on their players while UEFA are fiercely opposed to the concept, not least because it could dilute the importance of their competitions
Southgate believes players should be involved in discussions while he accepts that his generation may find it a hard sell
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
The cornerstone of football as we know it
today was the foundation of the fi rst football federation,
the Football Association, in London on 26 October 1863.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
The most recent signifi cant change of the regulations was
the introduction of the back pass rule. This change
imposed a new requirement on goalkeepers: it obliged them
to develop their skill of controlling the ball with their feet.
Many goalkeepers now have skills similar to outfi eld players
in this respect.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
goalkeeping techniques have not changed over the last
20 years
the major change concerns playing the ball with feet,
relating to:
the back pass rule,
playing as part of the defensive line with the goalkeeper
taking the role of a libero.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
the speed of the ball has doubled over the last 30 years
while the goalkeepers reaction time has remained the
same
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
The goalkeeper may be able to run 100m
in 10 seconds or lift 100kg weights in the gym, but this is
useless if he is unable to catch the ball or read its trajectory correctly
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
the speed of the game increases and the goalkeeper
has less time to analyse situations
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
learning to manage fame,
resisting pressure from the media
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
the ability to withstand heavy workloads, together with
good recovery
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
a stable family situation is an asset for good
performances
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Goalkeepers after the age of 35
using experience (reading the game, anticipation)
to compensate for the reduction of certain physical
qualities (speed, capacity to jump).

6-12 years old

it is essential to learn, repeat and perfect basic
goalkeeping techniques,
this is the age when a young goalkeeper can acquire
specifi c motor skills,
a lot of work on coordination, stability, movement, and
suppleness with and without the ball
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
13-18 years old
the players must adapt to eleven-a-side football on a
full-sized pitch (technical aspects: aerial balls, tactical
aspects: goalkeepers place in the formation),
aerial balls, returning the ball to play + jumping,
1-on-1 challenges, refl ex saves + speed,
standing saves and diving + coordination

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Amateur clubs (1 or 2 training sessions a week).
during the competition period, time needs to be
devoted to technical preparation and work on weak
points; this can lead to improved performances on
match day
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Professional clubs
2. Macrocycles:
the preparation period
The objective of this period is to quickly recover the
goalkeepers instinct that is partially lost during the
holidays:
handling the ball,
reading the balls trajectory,
sense of orientation on the pitch

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Technical qualities are systematically developed
during the competition period
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
This is why we need to incorporate an aerial
ball session at least once a week
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
2. Macrocycles planning the 3 periods:
the transition period
Goalkeepers are set an individual programme for their
holidays which forms the basis of their work when they
return. The programme contains some jogging, strength
building (sit-ups, press-ups, core muscle work) and other
sports (tennis, cycling, swimming, etc.).
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
There are more training sessions during the preparation
period than the competition period, so we can devote
more time to specific work with the goalkeepers.
If using split training sessions, the work focuses on
physical attributes in the morning and purely technical work in the afternoon
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
The use of less traditional
methods in the preparation period can greatly
contribute to bonding and team spirit:
orienteering,
hiking in the mountains,
mountain biking, canoeing, triathlon, etc.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
In the regular cycle of four matches a month, coaches work on the basis of three weeks of development and one week of recovery (work on technique alone).
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Other abilities are
developed indirectly. In general, the training session
the day before a match concentrates on improving
sharpness
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
individual preparation of 2-3 minutes, where each
goalkeeper does what he feels is right
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
3. Cool-down
this is the part of the session where the goalkeeper
calms down using stretching or relaxation exercises.
During this calm period we can go over the session and
talk about the next scheduled training.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
5 ways to sharpen up your players
USE SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
What could be better than the first day of pre-season training to refresh your players memories of what they did well during the previous season? Rather than launching into fitness or passing drills, why not spend five minutes at the beginning of your session helping players to open up a catalogue of mental pictures related to their best moments and best performances from last season. Ask them what they felt their best games were, as individuals and as a team. Also ask them what they felt stood out and what they have to do to replicate the performance again.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
2 CREATE AMBITIONS
Ask them to put it in a prominent position on their fridge, by their beds or in their kit bags. When they think of soccer, they should be thinking of the ambition their team has.

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Not being able to distinguish between bodybuilding and power training, and avoiding weights as a result, will most likely prevent a soccer athlete from optimizing performance.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Soccer players, or any movement-based athletes for that matter, would use resistance training to enhance power and speed qualities. These types of adaptations are just as much neurological as they are muscular.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Bodybuilders look to build mass by primarily training in a specific rep range and at a submaximal intensity level that optimizes a combination of time under tension, metabolic fatigue, and muscular damage to build muscular size.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Power and speed are best developed through high-intensity lifts with very low rep ranges. Power and speed both require full recovery between sets to preserve the intricate intermuscular and intramuscular coordination required to achieve the desired neurological adaptation.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Couple this type of training with the typical volume of running, jumping, and cutting done while training for and competing at soccer, and it would be nearly impossible to gain any appreciable excess bulk.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Pele predicted that an African side would lift the World Cup before the end of the 20th century, but so far none has come close.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
The elimination of Algeria in 1982 is one of the most outrageous examples.
It caused outrage from the media and fans, with one Austrian commentator telling viewers to turn off the TV.

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Ever since the legendary Pele predicted in 1977 that an African country would win the World Cup by 2000, many people have agonized over why, 14 years on, the continent has not delivered, despite an abundance of talent.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Ghana came close to making history in South Africa, only to be denied further advancement by the notorious Luis Suarez, who used his hand to stop a goal that would have put Ghana in the semi-finals.
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Why African countries don't win the World Cup
there is no team spirit. They falter when it really matters. And they fail because of the poor leadership and corruption of people who run the game, the greed and indiscipline of the players and the short tenure of many coaches. One World Cup and they are gone. They just dont stay long enough to perfect a winning system.

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
The big problem is that top officials running African football, going all the way to the continental federation, are often embroiled in corruption scandals that have a corrosive effect on the players. In Brazil, Ghanas top football official was snared in a match-fixing sting operation involving plans to fix friendly games. The same official badly botched the countrys World Cup preparation. Poor organization left the players stranded at an airport for nine hours. Players lost equipment they needed for training. On the 12-hour flight to Brazil, the players rode in the cramped coach section, while the top official, his wife and children, enjoyed a comfortable ride in business class. And in Brazil, players hotel rooms were flooded. One senior player described the World Cup preparation as a nightmare from start to finish.
