The symbolic in the text in "A Gold Box "

The beginning is wound and the end is wisdom and happiness .
    By : Fahim Abu Rukn

How can the beginning not be a wound and the wound has become the work of this age, the age of bombs and bullets, and as long as love ,despite the wound , in the ground has a thousand place, why then the end would be an alienation ?

Sad rain falls from your quiet eyes
Why do you carry The Sun in your bags?
Why are you stealing me in your bag?
Do not write to me and let us leave ..as two strangers !

More than three decades ago, in an article published in The Arabic Newspaper Al-Anbaa , on July 22, 1977, I asked that time like this about the poet Waheeb Nadeem Wahbah, and his book ," The breast of bracelet and a poem" , "Nahd Eswara and a poem."

Today, when the magician bewitches the princess, and turns her to a small piece the size of a doll , and then inserts her as a prisoner into a " A Gold Box "," how then can not the beginning be a wound ?

An when The Princess achieves her dream at the end of the book , how can not the end be wisdom and happiness ?!

It is a simple story, and like all the great stories that are based on simplicity and not complexity. This story employs simplicity as well as a transparent symbolism to say the deep things that are connected to the reality of our lives and to our destiny as society, people and human beings .

For example, on page 4, the writer says :

The princess wishes to leave the prison of the tales and the prison of the box , even if it is from pure gold, and that the magician would let her live free and return free as she was. "We can read this paragraph in its narrative and real form, and we can read it as a symbolic text., the princess who wants to get rid of the prison of the tales , is the Arab Nation that wants to get rid of attachment to the glories of history and imprisonment of some of the reactionary traditions, for example when a battle is risen between the listeners because of a tale , told by the narrator in the office (divan) !

So, the beauty in this book, it is built on the duality of the outward and the inner, it can be interpreted as it is for children, and can be interpreted internally to refer to issues of interest to adults also and from their world, and their ideas, issues of concern to humanity as a whole .

This is how the writer hunted several birds with one stone. He uses the keys of nostalgia to influence, when he returns to our feelings about what we grew up with stories of magic and animals , merging between One Thousand Nights and Kalila wa Dimna. He begins as a magician, then turns into the kingdom of animals, and take us into the world of mythology with Ishtar, and to the geographical features with the migration of birds and the snowman.

The similarity of this book to the two books "A Thousand and One Nights" and "Kalila wa Damna", which are a collection of stories related to wisdom and ethics, with myths and magic, but the difference between it and the two other books, the symbolic aspect and the possibility of multiple readings. Most of the characters of the stories of "Kalila wa Dimna " for example, are animals. The lion is the king and his servant , a bull, Kalila and Damna are two jackals, and many other characters ...Thus the stories are all moving and narrated in the forest on the tongues of these animals .

While in a " Gold box ", the princess remains a princess of flesh and blood, and the magician remains a magician in his form and humanity , but with his magical power, the animal is employed as a symbol, sometimes speaking to serve the dialogue, sometimes not speaking as in the story of ants, which can be read from an ordinary way , and can be read and interpret their symbols , to tell the story of real people who suffered from occupation and persecution .

The book of "Kalila wa Dimna" is a story based mainly on the style of the similarity tale, a book written on the tongues of beasts and birds, containing moral teachings directed to the rulers and members of society. As for the " Gold Box " did not adopt the style of the similarity tale, but it adopted the fictional narration of the stories, with sharp leaps here and there, because the events are many and time is short , only a week .

In this book there is a summary for a number of interrelated theories, in which the writer made an effort , for the book to come out in a comprehensive way , centered around man, man at all times and places .

In this book we find deep symbols of the absence of justice or fair and wise rule, and here we see a symbol of Socrates' teachings or his theory in his Idealist Republic, which preferred wisdom to the leaders of the state. I hear him saying, on the tongue of the lion "Sir, You are the wise man of the city, the greeting of you and especially you is no less than anger, as much as welcome, as much as the longing for you, as much as the amount of anger, you are absent from us, left us without a ruler, without a wise man , without a leader taking things with satisfaction or war" …

This paragraph is also an example of some linguistic notes that may need a single article , not this one to study it .

Another example of the symbolic of the text is the reference to the ice ages, for example we find him in page 44 says :
"There was a time when the severe cold was permanent , the snow was falling heavily for long ,and the whole area was snowing ,because of the accumulation of snow and freezing ,many animals were extinct, and other animals left, some people , died under the snow, and some left the place, left their houses and their property. They went away with the rest of the animals to this area where we are currently inhabiting ."

From the scientific geographical information the symbol rises up deeply into the psychological social situation, he says :"In the areas abandoned by the animal and man, from the bones of the animals that were extinct a state of a body look like of a man has grown , approaching our region, was coming near our region , eating an animal or a human being and instantly fleeing to those remote areas, so they named him "The ghost "because he appears and disappears. Every day one of us disappeared till we were even about be extinct before the blind power and savagery of the "ghost. " Perhaps this "ghost" is an unjust ruler or an enemy state, and the writer sees that the solution is peace or the democratic governance, this was expressed with the symbol of the circular shape , which means that all have the same rights, he says page 45:
"When the spectator saw the fire of the circle, he knew that the wise man wanted " dialogue " and after the peace dialogue, he said: " The wise man tells me that in the region there is who governs it and he is at the top of the list, the base is "the people" and it symbolizes the end of injustice and enmity , and the submission to " The authority of people ."

Finally, we say: This book is a purposeful book that can be read according to the level of the reader. It can be suitable for the sixth grade in the end of the primary stage in some schools or regions. It can also fit the preparatory stage and above in other regions. For the two cases it can be read symbolically, to moral advice, social reform and political vision or direction, in a consistent humanitarian position, and a holistic view of this universe that is threatened by destructive wars, if hatred, racism and intolerance continue .

We may not be mistaken if we consider this book as a story for children, read by young people and understood by adults , have a happy end that translates the poet's optimism and his deep faith in the essence of good man .

We wish the poet and writer Waheeb Nadeem Wahbah more creative and brilliant gift, and to be always forward .

    رمزيّةُ النّصّ في "علبةٌ مِن ذهب"
    البداية جُرحٌ والنّهايةُ حكمةٌ وسعادةٌ
    بقلم: فهيم أبو ركن

    ////

    كيفَ لا تكونُ البدايةُ جرحًا والجِراح أصبحتْ صنعةُ هذا العصرِ، عصرُ القنابلِ والرّصاصِ، وما دامَ الحبُّ رغمَ الجراحِ لهُ في الأرضِ ألفُ مكانٍ، فلماذا إذن تكونُ النّهايةُ غربةً؟

    ويتساقطُ مطرٌ حزينٌ مِن عينيْكِ الهادئتيْن
    لماذا تحملينَ الشّمسَ في حقائبِكِ؟
    لماذا أنتَ تسرقُني في حقيبتِك؟
    لا تكتبي لي ولنغادر.. غريبيْن!

    هكذا تساءلتُ قبلَ أكثرَ مِن ثلاثةِ عقودٍ، في مقالٍ نشرتُهُ في صحيفةِ الأنباء 22- 7- 1977، عن الشّاعرِ وهيب نديم وهبة، وكتابِهِ الصادرِ في تلك الفترة "نهدُ إسوارة وقصيدة". واليوم حينَ يسحرُ السّاحرُ الأميرةَ، ويجعلُها قطعةً صغيرةً بحجمِ عروسةِ ألعابٍ، ثمّ يُدخلُها سجينةً في "علبة من ذهب"، كيف إذن لا تكونُ البدايةُ جرحًا؟
    وحينَ تُحقّقُ الأميرةُ في نهاية الكتابِ حُلمَها، كيف لا تكونُ النّهايةُ حكمةً وسعادةً؟!

    إنّها قصّةٌ بسيطةٌ، وكلُّ القصصِ العظيمة تعتمد على البساطة وعدم التّعقيد، وهذه القصّة توظّفُ البساطةَ إلى جانب رمزيّةٍ شفّافةٍ، لتقولَ الأشياءَ العميقةَ الّتي ترتبطُ بواقعِ حياتِنا، وبمصيرِنا كمجتمعٍ وشعبٍ وبني بشر.

    فمثلاً في الصّفحةِ الرّابعة يقول الكاتبُ:
    الأميرةُ تودُّ أن تخرجَ مِن سجنِ الحكاياتِ وسجنِ العلبةِ، حتّى لو كانتْ مِن الذّهب الخالص، وأن يتركَها السّاحرُ أن تعيشَ حرّةً وأن تعودَ كما كانت". يمكنُ أن نقرأَ هذه الفقرة بنمطِها السّرديِّ والواقعيِّ، ويمكنُ أن نقرأها كنص رمزيّ، فالأميرةُ الّتي تريدُ التّخلّصَ مِن سجن الحكايات، هي الأمّةُ العربيّةُ الّتي تريد أن تتخلّصَ مِن التعلّقِ بأمجادِ التّاريخِ وسجنِ بعضِ التّقاليدِ الرّجعيّةِ، مثل أن تنشبَ معركةٌ بين المستمعين بسبب رواية يرويها الراوي في الديوان!

    ***

    إذن، الجميلُ في هذا الكتاب، أنّهُ مبنيٌّ على ثنائيّةِ الظّاهرِ والباطنِ، إذ يمكنُ أن يُفسّرَ كما هو للأطفال، ويمكن تفسيرُهُ باطنيًّا ليُشيرَ إلى قضايا مثيرةٍ تهمُّ الكبار أيضاً ومِن عالمِهم، وبأفكارِهم، قضايا تهُمُّ الإنسانيّةَ جمعاء.

    هكذا اصطادَ الكاتبُ عدّة عصافيرٍ بحجرٍ واحدٍ، فهو يستعملُ مفاتيحَ حنينيّة التّأثير، حين يعود بمشاعرِنا إلى ما ترعرعْنا عليه مِن قصصِ السّحرِ والحيوان، فيدمجُ بين ألف ليلة وليلة، وبين كليلة ودمنة. فهو يبدأ بساحرٍ، ثم يُعرّجُ على مملكةِ الحيواناتِ، ويُدخلُنا إلى عالم الأساطيرِ مع عشتار، وإلى المعالم الجغرافيّة مع هجرةِ الطّيور ورجلِ الثّلج.

    المتشابهُ بينَ هذا الكتابِ وبينَ كتابي "ألف ليلة وليلة" و "كليلة ودمنة"، أنّهما مجموعةُ قصصٍ ذاتِ طابعٍ يرتبطُ بالحكمةِ والأخلاق، بالأساطير والسحر، ولكن الفرقَ بينَهُ وبينَ الكتابين، الناحية الرمزية وإمكانية القراءات المتعددة، فمعظمَ شخصيّاتِ قصص كتاب "كليلة ودمنة" مثلا، عبارة عن حيواناتٍ، فالأسدُ هو الملك وخادمُه ثورٌ، وكليلة ودمنة هما اثنان من حيوان ابن آوى، و شخصيّاتٌ أخرى عديدة... هكذا تدور القصصُ بالكاملِ ضمنَ الغابةِ وعلى ألسنة هذه الحيوانات.

    هناااااااااااا

    بينما في "علبة من ذهب"، الأميرة تبقى أميرةً من لحمٍ ودم، والسّاحر يبقى ساحرًا بشكلِهِ وصفاتِهِ الإنسانيّة، ولكن مع قوته السّحرية، والحيوانُ يُوظّفُ كرمزٍ، أحيانا يتكلّمُ ليخدمَ الحوار، وأحيانًا لا يتكلّم كما في قصة النّمل، الّتي يمكن أن تُفسَّر مِن خلالِ قراءةٍ عاديّةٍ، ويمكن قراءتُها وتفسيرُ رموزِها، لتحكي قصّةَ شعبٍ حقيقيٍّ عانى من الاحتلالِ والاضطهاد.
    كتاب "كليلة ودمنة"، هي قصّةٌ تقومُ أساسًا على نمطِ الحكايةِ المثليّة، وهو كتابٌ وُضعَ على ألسنةِ البهائمِ والطّيورِ، واحتوى على تعاليمَ أخلاقيّةٍ موجّهةٍ إلى رجالِ الحُكمِ وأفرادِ المجتمع، أمّا "علبة من ذهب"، فلم تعتمدْ نمطَ الحكايةِ المثليّة، إنّما أدخلتِ السّردَ القصصيَّ، مع قفزاتٍ حادّةٍ هنا وهناك، لأنّ الأحداثَ كثيرةٌ والزّمنَ قصيرٌ، هو أسبوع فقط.

    في هذا الكتابِ تلخيصٌ لعدّةِ نظريّاتٍ متداخلةٍ، بذلَ الكاتبُ فيها مجهودًا،
    ليَخرجَ بالكتابِ شاملاً، يتمحورُ حولَ الإنسان، الإنسانِ في كلِّ زمانٍ ومكانٍ.

    في هذا الكتاب نجد رموزًا عميقةً لغيابِ العدلِ أو الحُكمِ العادلِ الحكيم، وهنا نستشفُّ رمزًا لتعاليم سقراطَ أو نظريّتِهِ في جمهوريّتِهِ المثاليّة، الّتي فضّلتِ الحكمةَ لقادةِ الدّولةِ. أسمعه صفحة 50 يقول على لسان الأسد: "سيّدي حكيم المدينة، إنّ التّرحيبَ بكم وبك خاصّة لا يقلُّ عنهُ الغضب، بقدر التّرحيبِ، بقدرِ الشّوق إليك، بقدرِ حجم الغضب، غبتَ عنّا، تركتَنا دون حاكمٍ دونَ حكيمٍ، دون قائدٍ يأخذُ الأمورَ بالرّضا أو بالحرب... "
    هذه الفقرةُ أيضًا مثالٌ لبعضِ الملاحظاتِ اللّغويّةِ الّتي تحتاجُ ربّما لمقالٍ منفردٍ، ليس هذا المقام لمعالجتها.

    مثالٌ آخرُ لرمزيّةِ النّصّ هو الإشارةُ إلى العصورِ الجليديّةِ، مثلا نجده صفحة 44 يقول:
    "وذاتَ زمنٍ دامَ البردُ القارص، ودامتْ فترةُ تساقطِ الثّلوجِ، حتّى كسا الثّلجُ المنطقةَ كلَّها، بسببِ تراكمِ الثّلوجِ والتّجلّدِ، انقرضتْ حيواناتٌ كثيرة، وغادرتِ المكانَ حيواناتٌ أخرى، النّاسُ،بعضُهم مات تحتَ كُتلِ الثّلج، بعضُهم غادرَ المكان، تركوا المنازلَ والممتلكاتِ، ابتعدوا مع باقي الحيواناتِ إلى هذه المنطقةِ الّتي نسكنُها حاليًّا".

    ومِن المعلومةِ الجغرافيّةِ العلميّةِ يتصاعدُ الرّمزُ عمقًا إلى الحالةِ الاجتماعيّةِ النّفسيّةِ، فيقولُ:
    " في المناطقِ الّتي هجرَها الحيوانُ والإنسانُ، نبتتْ مِن عظام الحيواناتِ الّتي انقرضتْ، هيئة على شكل إنسان كان يقترب من منطقتنا، يأكلُ حيوانًا أو إنسانًا منّا ويهربُ إلى تلكَ المناطقِ البعيدة، لهذا قالوا عنه "الشّبح" لأنّه يظهرُ ويختفي. وفي كلِّ يوم كان ينقص منّا أحد، حتّى أوشكنا على الانقراض أمامَ جبروتِ ووحشيّة "الشّبح". ربّما كان هذا الـ "الشّبح" هو حاكمٌ ظالمٌ، أو دولة عدوّة، والكاتب يرى أنّ الحلّ هو السّلامُ أو الحكم الدّيمقراطيّ، ويُعبِّرُ عن ذلك برمزِ الشّكلِ الدّائريِّ، أي أنّ للجميع نفسُ الحقوقِ، فيقول صفحة 45:

More than three decades ago, in an article published in The Arabic Newspaper Al-Anbaa , on July 22, 1977, I asked that time like this about the poet Waheeb Nadeem Wahbah, and his book ," The breast of bracelet and a poem" , "Nahd Eswara and a poem."

It is a simple story, and like all the great stories that are based on simplicity and not complexity. This story employs simplicity as well as a transparent symbolism to say the deep things that are connected to the reality of our lives and to our destiny as society, people and human beings .

The symbolic in the text in "A Gold Box "

The beginning is wound and the end is wisdom and happiness .
        By : Fahim Abu Rukn

        ***
